The MSI GS63 is a thin and light gaming laptop that offers a great combination of performance, portability, and value. It’s an outstanding choice for gamers who want to take their video games on the go without sacrificing too much performance or battery life.
MSI Gaming GS63
The MSI Gaming GS63 is a gaming laptop, and it is one of the best 15-inch gaming laptops on the market. The notebook comes with a powerful Intel Core i7 processor, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD.
The notebook has a 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz and a response time of 7 ms. MSI has also included a SteelSeries RGB keyboard for added customization. The thin and light gaming laptop is really powerful enough to run VR games.
In this part, we will go through the gaming laptop thoroughly across all meaningful parameters.
MSI GAMING GS63: PERFORMANCE AND PERFORMANCE
The MSI Gaming GS63 has been a long time since the release of the previous generation Geforce GTX 1060 model and now we finally have an updated version with a full 10 series GPU and the latest 8th generation Intel Coffee Lake processor. It’s still a gaming laptop, of course, but now it’s more than that: it’s a powerful laptop for any task you can throw at it.
Overall performance is excellent in terms of both CPU and graphics, although there are some trade-offs compared to other configurations that make it less suitable for certain tasks such as video gaming or software development (which will require more RAM).
If you are looking for a laptop that may manage to game, the MSI GS63 is worth considering. It’s thin, light, and powerful, with a beautiful screen and great battery life, but it’s also a bit expensive and not that easy to upgrade.
The MSI GS63 is one of the most powerful laptops we have got tested this year, thanks to its 6-core Intel Core i7-8750H processor and 16GB of RAM. It also has a high-quality display, long battery life, and many ports. At just 2.3kg (0.27kg more than the Pro), it’s one of the lightest 15-inch laptops we’ve seen, making it easy to carry around.
A solid all-around laptop, definitely not the best at anything. It’s not the most portable 15-inch gaming laptop, and it’s not the cheapest either. But it hits a sweet spot among size and performance that is difficult to beat.
Not the lightest or thinnest 15-inch gaming laptop, it delivers solid gaming performance and decent battery life for its size.
It’s also one of the few gaming laptops to offer an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q graphics card at this price point. This means you get more than enough graphics power to play most games at 1080p, along with decent battery life and excellent thermal performance.
MSI GS63 SPECIFICATIONS
DISPLAY
The 15.6-inch display has an FHD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and an anti-glare treatment for comfortable viewing. If you want to spend more money on the laptop, you can also choose the 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) option. The 15-inch screen is still gorgeous and bright, with great viewing angles and color reproduction.
CONNECTIVITY
In phrases of connectivity, there are USB Type-C ports, USB 3.1 Gen2 ports, one HDMI port, and one Thunderbolt 3 port. The Thunderbolt 3 port supports a DisplayPort connection and up to 65W of strength while charging the laptop.
KEYBOARD AND TRACKPAD
The keyboard has fantastic travel for such a small laptop, and the trackpad works nicely too if you do not mind sacrificing USB ports for the more space it takes up at the right edge of the palm rest.
BATTERY LIFE
Battery life isn’t great even compared to other notebooks in its class, expect around four hours of average use but that’s at least partly due to MSI’s insistence on not upgrading notebook batteries. In no way is it really recommended that you play while not plugged in. This only applies to non-game situations.
SAFETY
There’s also a fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button, so you can keep all your data safe without having to use passwords or PINs every time you log in to the Windows 10 Home Edition operating system installed on this PC.
DESIGN
The MSI GS63 features an attractive design that looks great in all black, with brushed aluminum on the lid and keyboard deck, as well as aluminum thermal fins on the bottom cover to help keep temperatures under control. The bezel around the display is also relatively thin just 0.5 inches thick on either side which helps make this laptop feel smaller than when closed (4.1 pounds) or open (16 by 11 inches).
The 15-inch display has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and looks bright, colorful, and sharp enough for most users – although professionals may want something with a higher resolution if they do a lot of photo or video editing on their laptops.
